Santal rebellion

The Santal Rebellion stands as a significant uprising that unfolded in what is now Jharkhand, India, during the latter half of the 19th century. The rebellion originated in 1855 when the Santal people, an indigenous community, took up arms against the oppressive policies of British colonial rule, particularly the exploitative zamindari system that subjected their land and resources to unjust practices. Spearheaded by leaders like Sidhu and Kanhu, the rebellion sought to secure the rights and autonomy of the Santal community.
