Explain the legislative powers of the President of India.

The President of India holds certain legislative powers, though they are limited compared to the Parliament’s authority. One of the primary responsibilities of the President is to summon or prorogue the two Houses of Parliament, and they also have the power to dissolve the Lok Sabha. Another crucial function of the President is to provide assent to bills passed by both the Houses of Parliament, which then become laws. However, if needed, the President can send a bill back to the Parliament for reconsideration, and in certain situations, they may withhold assent. Additionally, when the Parliament is not in session, the President can promulgate ordinances that have the force of law, but they must receive approval from the Parliament within six weeks of reassembly.
