The conflicts between the British and the Mysore kingdom began in the late 18th century through a series of Anglo-Mysore Wars. Despite facing initial resistance, the British, armed with superior military strength, ultimately triumphed. The Treaty of Srirangapatna in 1792 curtailed the power of Mysore’s ruler, Tipu Sultan. Nevertheless, Tipu Sultan continued his resistance, culminating in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War in 1799, resulting in the British capturing and annexing Mysore. Subsequently, the region came under British administration, with the colonial power exerting significant political and economic control until India’s independence in 1947.
